Discount Granite Countertops

A great way to save money with your kitchen makeover is by purchasing discount granite countertops rather than those sold at retail prices.

Suppliers offer discounted granite for several reasons. Some suppliers sell at wholesale prices to homeowners simply to get more business and sell more granite than their competition. Sometimes, suppliers offer extremely discounted prices on certain pieces in their granite yard because they are scrap or remnants left over from large installation jobs. These slabs are often smaller, but work great in kitchens with less counter space area and can drastically reduce the cost of a kitchen remodeling job. Just be sure that there aren't any noticeable color differences between the pieces you select if you need more than one slab for your counter.

The lower priced granite does have some service trade offs for the discounted price. Keep in mind that the particular color or pattern of slabs you are looking for may not be available. You basically have to choose from what is there, because there are no special orders for discount granite. Also, many discount granite countertop suppliers do not offer installation or consultation services, so you are usually on your own to find and installer. However, many suppliers will have referrals to offer.

Other than remnants and scraps, another option to lower cost is prefabricated granite countertops. These discounted counters are made in standard sizes and include a back splash, and only need to be cut to size.

Unlike scraps and remnants from a granite yard, installation services are usually available with prefab granite but there are some other disadvantages. Thinner slabs are generally used that must be strengthened by laminate on the back for prefab granite counters. Also, the most popular patterns and colors are only available, so it's hard to get something unique if that's what you are looking for.
