Colors of Granite Countertops
A broad spectrum of granite colors offer
numerous choices for your kitchen countertop. More colors are
emerging as new granite supplies from various
countries are being discovered and cultivated from within
the earth. There are literally hundreds of granite
countertop colors.
Since granite is a mixture of various minerals, most
granite is defined by the color that occurs most in the
slab called the primary color. Flecks and specks
within the stone make up the secondary colors.
There are a wide range of primary colors of granite:
Beige and brown granite are popular, since
they compliment just about any style of kitchen and offer a
warm feel. Because they are widely available they
are generally the least expensive granite countertops
available. Red, including Rose Granites, are
among the rarest forms available and vary in color
from pink to lavender. Since they are so rare, found
only in parts of China and Brazil, it can be the most
expensive type. Burgundy, a color between brown and
red, provides versitility with visual impact.
Black granite is popular for modern
style kitchens and has a lot of variety. It is
available in absolute black with virtually no other
colors to variable black with many secondary
colors.
Variations of white include bright white with gray flecks
to pearl to off white ivory depending on the region it is
from.
Yellow granite, known for its warm look, includes shades
from light gold to brownish green colors.
Green granite is a great
choice for homeowners who want a lot of variety in the
design because so many secondary colors are available.
Blue granite comes in many
different shades such as blue pearl, but it can be more
expensive since it is a rare color. Gray
granite, a variation of blue, is a much more affordable
choice since it is mined in the United States.
Secondary colors vary and depend mostly on the primary
color:
Brown, beige, and burgundy secondary colors include
shades of red, brown, gray, black, white and
pink.
Red or Rose granite are often complimented by gold, white
(for a soft light tone) and grey (for a contrasting look).
Variable black granites include white, gray, blue, and
green.
Green can have rose, gray, blue, and aqua as secondary
colors.
Blue granite secondary colors include white, other shades
of blue, gray, and black.
Many of the granite patterns are available
with metallic colors like gold and copper and it
brings a feel of luxury to the kitchen.
